12/9………..light, but most of the day…on and off….a reminder of what’s possible , perhaps in store…Fall was wonderful. And long

Family, friends, clients, in Chicago and Buffalo, say they got a lot more!!

Brings back memories of younger days, frolicking in it. A great, general characteristic of snow here, rather than Chicago or Buffalo, is that it’s gone in a matter of hours…….days at most….

May these coming days be joyous, peaceful and fulfilling to you and yours!!

I always [perhaps  like many of us] assumed I understood and actually practiced thinking/being “strategic” in my leadership and management. Two client have been asked [ directed??] to be strategic, and we’ve been in conversations about what does that mean? what do/can others do? how does it mix in with operation or tactics that are soo pressing today.

A list: Post 445 Strategy Ponderables, developed  as we explored options. Likely to increase

Oct 28

I’ve been commenting on this giant set of topics, and writing a blog now and then…even two in a row now[ see below]

Seems appropriate in my network …a new poster linked in….”word-smithed” a bit……. almost all counsel today, personal and organization, @ the senior levels leads within an hour or two, leads to  some converging set of this list.

The list started as 12, grew to 15, then to 20……….it doesn’t matter what number you use today…it’s growing and impacting more work flows/people/products/teams…..needs to be understodd by many ……anticipated …and applied…continually…. they shapes the entire I.T. focus I believe, especially from the consumer/marketplace view…..

Will explore it directly with some of you

Post 444 Tech Trends

Sep 26

For some many months I  have been lecturing on the extent of many [actually increasing] technology trends, most of those on the list were “Science Fiction” topics, just a short while  ago. This list is  used as a discussion basis in Leadership Learning forums –  Post 444 Tech Trends. The crucial implications referenced, are the intense tight convergence, the realization that some really aren’t technology trends, but ideas or processes, that they are changing, in real time, AND provoke at the same time a serious level of concern/planning, and also the naive view that this is a long ways off!! They’re the full brackground now for several major industries…..big Health Care, Higher Education , the Legal Profession, Banking, and Insurance, and on & on. And they represent a framework for everyone’s planning/security/disaster recovery efforts. Welcome to the dialoque. It will be with us for sometime. Those in our profession….Information technology Services….. who have wanted to be more important surely have that option now!

This 6th video, long with the previous 5 videos shown under “teaching videos/photos”[ click above],  of my office and what’s in it, manifests, I believe, how I’ve grown and changed, both professionally and personally over time. It’s the framework now, in this giving back phase, the 7th phase of my career, providing a flexible construct to share all my learning’s and experiences helping emerging leaders everywhere discover their own best way of developing others. Little by little I’m adding into the website, materials, documents, photos, quotes, ideas,  drawings, etc….whatever might seem useful in that crucial process, from 1983 on. Almost 35 years of intense focus!  I hope you can use it your own way, any way you like

Call to chat, or go deeper into any part, or more specifics, if you like

I usually read “Breaking Smart”, on a weekly basis……often provoked to differ, or think a-new. A recent point, his #60th  [they’re often long blogs]  = “Because, here’s the thing, when things are being turned upside down, and up and down are churning, the only sense of “depth “available to you…..is the one you generate internally”

Agree. Believe it. So appropriate today. I am “Selling” it all the time via the “Magic” in the Leadership Learning Forums I run for/with Clients. It’s fundamental to do today, with so much data available, tons of so called “fake news” [ depending often on whose it is…??]…and simply not enough real practice leading others, never mind leading oneself….., to break though the confusion that’s offered constantly, to many trying to lead……..If you can’t find your own solid base, testing it always, then you can’t, in my opinion, deal effectively with what seems like an every day agenda in many “disrupted organizations/even professions” today. The book “Stealing Fire” by Kotler & Wheal, deals with some attempts to generate, peak, @ least much higher,  performance  in  groups, to deal with this constant challenge….. The Navy SEALS,  Googleplex, The Burning Man Festival….Nike’s Innovation Team, etc., etc.

Get it, peruse it,  ponder…how can you do it… to find your base, to support and propel you, to your best self……and then your team, and then your organization!?!?!……….or else do what???

Below, dated 4/25 in a comment about “Being a Fast Study”, a  capacity of value for leaders…. that’s been a part of my Leadership Learning Forum Process] LLFP] for years,  we actually highlight a skill required today , perhaps more than ever. The same heightened perspective, in the next “blog” [6/7], referencing the Economist’s issue of 5/6 , focusing on “Data”, builds toward the same importance of knowledge  and comfort, that many of us don’t have today, about the pace/scope of more “advancing technologies (AT)”  than are in my current, 7 months old, list [Poster 444] Post 444 Tech Trends. I’m in discussions, exploration sessions, with clients/network contacts now, about these 13 [acknowledging there are others AT’s to consider – but this list seem more than enough to start for most of us – especially for emerging leaders], and how the 13 combine today with some select leadership capacities[ listed as A- E] that are often not fully operative in some  organizations today.

Surely requires more dialogue. The need for which is clearly manifested by the implications referenced in the last blog [6/16] about “Neural Implants!

A superb, fascinating,  short, article on one of many technology  advancements these days , that manifests the huge gap…which is increasing,  between those who are engaged with some of these trends, @the “edge”, so to speak, and much of the rest of the normal work force inhabitants, I run into each day……..including those in “technology”………Maybe they’re  in “technology” that’s fast becoming “old”…perhaps faster than ever in our lives before!

What’s possible, actually often being done somewhere now, begs for more discussion/planning/realistic creative review and thought, than most staff have the time/energy to give. One of my grandsons is in classes now, in college, covering advanced technologies……little known nor understood by many of us, that will form work assignments for him and his generation in the near future!!

The descriptive adjective “Disruptive “, as common as it is now, isn’t really being appropriately used often enough in my opinion.

Get it, and ponder!….no, study more and plan!!

Jun 07

An excellent article. Get it and read for sure , I’d argue

And ponder…. we all know of the ages – farm to agrarian to industrial to information….but really “Data”.  They postulate that “data is to this century what oil was to the last: a driver of change and growth”, and then go into how it’s grown, what makes it, what it’s used for, or will be, with some interesting chart/lists. Plus a number of thoughts/perspectives on markets it’s created or disrupted…on its share-ability…on its portability..and who might get held accountably for what . Or not! With differences in Europe, American and China referenced……

Should be a carefully run full day workshop, superbly facilitated! And much more…… There must be more written & discussed, of course. I will look for that.

Post 15 Fast Study 14, all 16’s, 17

The low poster #, [15], indicates this is a long time Leadership Learning Forum Process basic topic! However its importance has increased substantially. It was just nice to be quick to assimilate information. Now its essential. For everyone. AND to be able to sort out, what you feel is irrelevant, just as fast. This poster covers c.45-60 minutes discussion in a leadership workshop. It’s amazing how many leaders don’t do the fundamentals well!! The first five bullet points are crucial. And it takes practice!!Luckily there are lots of materials today, every day, to practice on.

It does take intense concentration!!

Post 40 Ring of Fire

Increasingly, perhaps reflecting generational shifts, this poster prompts an lively discussion these days. Older facilitators are more empathetic with its implied work ethic/habits. Younger leaders  often seem to have  been  pressured to seek  “short cuts” as the whole form of the art…not necessarily seeing “craft” focus/discipline as fundamental AND first. I certainly agree with Burgess’s view, but I know…admit!!…. to have been “short cut” oriented most of my life!!

Can one be both? What do you think??

Communication is always crucial…especially for those of us who are reasonably good @ it….or just take it for granted as an everyday process we do well enough. This poster [#28] (Post 28. Four Dimensions in communication) has been a favorite of Leadership Learning Forum discussions for years. Understanding and improving your versatility in “length” [time used], or in level[ i.e., height/distance of perspective], or the various  media[s] used, or pondering the sequence of how you learned this art, is absolutely fundamental in every leadership opportunity to produce the most effective “Magic”.

Actually this  one page set of ideas/practices is enough for an intense 1/2 day workshop on the process!…..Often takes longer to master the four views !!
