Using a form developed @ Loma Linda University Health, for their own staff, as a model, I’ve generated an approach to gathering, in one organized place, all the ideas/promises/dreams I made to myself, over the years. Huge. Surprisingly valuable so far! Provoked me into several other, needed perspectives….Likely almost daily………..@ least for a while

Coronavirus may have been moved aside, or be on “a shelf”, for some of us in our ongoing attention span, but it’s surely not gone and has produced an angst about our near future. Maybe that was always there….not as demanding, nor as widely spread as today. Seems to be there for me, for most all of my still huge network. The repetitive response seems to be …..wait…ponder….watch…read…listen …. wonder…….substituting those six perspectives [ like below] for as much as possible, of the ongoing “angst”. Check back in a few weeks for any shift, @ least in my opinion.
LIKELY I WAS A “CONTROL FREAK” MOST OF MY PROFESSIONAL LIFE,.TRYING TO KEEP IT UNNOTICED ?!?!? NOW…. WITH CD-19, PLUS DEMONSTRATIONS IN MANY CITIES, PLUS MY OWN ADVANCING AGE [ NOW WELL INTO MY 87TH YEAR]…..”CONTROL” IS CLEARLY NOT USEFUL, NOR EVEN POSSIBLE. ANYMORE, IN MY VISION. HOW DOES ONE RESPOND? WE WATCH/LISTEN/READ/BE AWARE……ADJUST !!… AND WAIT. REQUIRING PATIENCE & HUMILITY. NEVER TWO OF MY STRONG SUITES. SO TIME TO REALLY LEARN SOME BASICS, @ LEAST FOR ME. MAYBE OTHERS…….
With CD-19 still not fully understood [1] by most of us, plus the equally broad, deep feelings, or views manifested in the [2]demonstrations/ riots, and as many businesses struggle to pick up [3]where they would like……normal.,expected, or even “New Normal”, that is, mostly unknown!!…….. is not descriptive enough. Basic re-think seems necessary. This of course requires “un-learning” beyond the thoughts, habits, attitudes, many of us grew up living by! Such change is very hard for individuals, and often harder for groups, and organizations. Where can innovation help? How much is enough? Is this situation different? Are we willing to pay the price?………@ the pace required……..??
AND with what connections?……..
Maybe in its last month, more will show, as the summer season begins. Likely also uncertainty re. influx of tourists/seasonal families, etc. States, cities, towns, even beaches, all with different rules/protocols. Most thinkers in my network say……..just watch, listen to multiple sources, stay agile, expect surprises in areas/topics heretofore not planned for!!!…sometimes building on each other outside of the current reality ….and sometimes close to others who seem not to care @ all re. personal hygiene, or “mandated rules”. Yes a very different world for any business/operation/life process to be “normal”. How much change can we handle individually/in groups??
Sunny and about 48 degrees this Saturday afternoon……..A whisper of Spring? We went for a ride. Island Ferry’s not running?? Hyannis is empty. Some restaurants advertising home cooked “takeouts” with curb-side attention available. People running or dog walking. Little else………As expected, but very different. Everyone, here and elsewhere, waiting, wondering, worried….We are both doing things that might have been done sometime ago…..organizing passwords, cleaning closets, reading, etc. One day @ a time…!!!..we shall see……..
Can hardly believe how many things I’ve forgotten, since the last blog………. e.g., passwords, how to navigate on this system…….coming back slowly. I’ll be 86 in a few more weeks. Expecting to live much longer, I’m caught-up by the idea of other changes, perhaps each year will bring?! Unless I work to slow it down, with reasonable focus. Hopefully that answer will be apparent to quick observation, right here on this website.

Some people do. I’m more used to my Lenovo and its features…… barely used the cell phone for chess, for client contact/answers, for inquiry. Its a ;earning process. will get more important/fundamental to everyone. Not just those growing up being dependent, in some form of “hand-held. The digitual word takes us there….hopefully I’ll be a fast creative user!!
Singularity Hub reported on 1/23/’20, that 5 Central Banks, [England, Canada, Japan, Sweden & The European Central Bank ]plus the Bank of International Settlements, have banded together to research central bank digital currencies. I’ve only read, a bit, about “Bitcoin” and it’s descendants or rivals and am feeling out of touch……..surely am prompted into understanding more! A classic response happening often these days of deep “disrupters”………Some of my network says I’m not alone on this quest!!

The attached list [ my poster 448] started several years ago, & was shared for discussion with client staff who were following each, or had decided not to. It’s gone way beyond obvious technology changes/possibilities. For many in the marketplace, these possibilities seem to cover an impossible set to stay up to date on ?!?!?. I actually feel a bit that way, myself,, even though I have more time now and still have a huge network. It takes careful focus and some uncomfortable decisions to skip a few…………not easy…….even if you have a big staff and/or advanced vendor connections! So…how much coverage is enough??
Years ago, soon after being elected a very young Vice President, the Chairman asked me to write, on one page or less…what the Management Information System”, was and what good it would do the organization and our customers?!?!…..well…….. I thought, we do need help if one page has to be the frame of important answers………..Of course I used a “legal” sized sheet….which annoyed him a great deal, but he accepted it, read and questioned..and we continued as one of the first in our profession!!! Actually for a number of years…… It took me many more years to really learn the power of being concise and to do it. Likely still in that quest!!
Christmas decor, lots of adds, announcements, sales, trips, all seem to be covering any mention, or common awareness of the next holiday to celebrate. Some Halloween decor is still up. Of course that just past evening has gotten bigger, comparatively, to me. in more recent years. Candy and costumes for children, plus adults now going to parties, etc. make for more $ sales to seek. Thanksgiving has less $/focus opportunities, except for getting turkeys, or family/communal meals. Even here in New England where the celebration was largely centered originally. Shopping habits or trends, during the weeks of December, a month time period, are already laced throughout the press. What happened to highlighting Thanks giving? Or more importantly observing its meaning?
Even with retail shop actions, and surely in some some homes with very early Christmas decor, we all have reason to be thankful….and to remember the opportunity………despite the much less seasonality in comparison
